Holly came for a fun Halloween visit.  The day started with pumpkin carving.  Holly scooped out the pumpkin guts and got shrieks from both girls by showing them what was coming out of the pumpkin.  Chloe Jane and Cara wanted a cat face on the pumpkin so I did the best I could to carve some whiskers.  We ended up with a cat-o-lantern.

Later, it was time to get the girls ready for the neighborhood Halloween parade and trick-or-treating.  Tommy was dressed up as a cheeky monkey (he was not too happy about wearing monkey ears on his head).  Chloe Jane dressed up as a lady bug.  When I started to help Cara into her butterfly costume, however, she said she didn’t want to dress up.  She had dressed up in her costume on Friday for her school party and then again on Saturday for Boo at the Zoo and just didn’t want to put on her butterfly costume for the third straight day.  I tried to explain to her that really this was the only day she had to dress up in costume.  I said if you’re only going to dress up in a butterfly costume one day this whole year, today is the day.  I told her that people will literally throw candy into her bag if she dresses up as a butterfly.  She found none of the arguments persuasive.  Fortunately, once she saw Chloe Jane dressed up in her lady bug costume, she decided to go ahead and be a butterfly one more time.

So we put our two bugs in a wagon and our monkey in a stroller and wheeled our way to the neighborhood parade where they joined costumed kids from all over the neighborhood.  Everyone paraded a couple of blocks and then dispersed throughout the neighborhood for tricks or treats.
