This weekend we celebrated Tommy turning one year. Although Chloe Jane was pushing for a farm animal theme, we went with a Thomas the Train for reasons that are obvious in the telling. My parents came by early enough for lunch and Ruth made a cake for Tommy. As a noteworthy footnote, Ruth managed to find the time and the energy to run a 10K race before her son’s birthday celebration. We were very proud of her although the girls were a little disappointed when they learned she didn’t win.
It took Tommy a few minutes to figure out what to do with the cake, but once he got the hang of it, he couldn’t be stopped. Eventually, I think there was more cake on him than in him.
