Easter morning, the kids woke up to a rainy day, but the Easter Bunny had come for a visit. There were bunny prints down the hall leading to Easter baskets filled with candy and toys. The kids also discovered that the Easter bunny had hidden eggs all over the house so they picked up their baskets and filled them with the eggs they found.
“Hey, Cara, we sure chose the right religion didn’t we? Candy for every holiday! Jesus died for our sins; we get candy. Jesus is born; we get toys and candy. All Souls Day–a little scary sure–but we get candy. St. Patrick brought Catholicism to Ireland; well, those aren’t gold coins, Cara, it’s candy! Yeah, these are the salad days, Cara. You hear me, the salad days! Only its not salad; its candy! Others aren’t so lucky . . . Yom Kippur; no candy. Rosh Hoshannah; no candy. Hannukah? You can keep your dradle–I’ll take the toys and candy! Seder? No, way, pass the chocolate bunny! I wouldn’t change a thing, Cara. I wouldn’t change a thing!”
After the visit from the Easter Bunny, we all dressed in our Sunday Easter best and made it to the 8:30 service. Grandma and PopPop had come to stay with us for the Easter weekend so they joined us for the Easter service and a brunch afterwards at our house complete with traditional Easter (Honeybaked) Ham.
The girls continued their Easter tradition of dyeing eggs and decorating a bunny cake. For days leading up to Easter, Cara lamented that they haven’t yet made the bunny cake. This year, even Tommy helped with the decorating.
