It’s never too late for new traditions!  For the second straight year, we had a big family gathering for Thanksgiving in the Tennessee mountains.  After a rainy night of driving, we were greeted the next morning with a beautiful dusting of snow all over the grass and trees. It was the day before Thanksgiving so we drove into Pigeon Forge and visited the Titanic Museum. The exhibit held replicas of the ship, replicas of the first and third class cabins, a replica of the grand staircase and lots of photos and facts about the disaster. The Titanic continues to capture the fascination and emotions of people even a century after the sinking.

Elizabeth looks happy in this photo. For the record, she is not happy that the ship sank, she is just happy to be on vacation and surrounded by family.

Thanksgiving morning was beautiful!  There was still a little snow on the ground as the sun came up. This is the view from our cabin.

As our Thanksgiving dinner was being prepared, the little Indians were getting restless.

For our Thanksgiving feast, we had Karen, Joe, Elizabeth, Matthew, Susan, the Hendersonville Fifes and the Atlanta Fifes together in a cozy cabin in the beautiful Smoky Mountains.

We got up early the next morning to make our way to Gatlinburg for a pancake breakfast at the Pancake Pantry.  We passed eight pancake restaurants on the way to get to this one so you know it had to be good (or for those who hadn’t been there before, it better be good).  If you’re not there early enough, you have to wait in a line outside in the cold.  Fortunately, we got there early and enjoyed all kinds of pancakes including Caribbean pancakes, sweet potato pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, sugar and spice pancakes and teddy bear shaped pancakes with M&Ms for the kids.  The pancakes did not disappoint!

When we got back to the car, a police officer was set up behind us with lights flashing.  Uh-oh.  We then saw there was a sign near our car that said no parking after 9:00 am.  I looked at the time and it was 8:59 am.  So I drove off un-ticketed.  Better luck next time, copper!

While in Pigeon Forge, we took in a couple more attractions.  We went to a Magic Show.  Tommy nearly jumped out of his seat when the magician made a woman’s head (appear to) spin completely around.  We also had front row seats for Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede.  It’s a dinner show where you watch horse and rider events.  For the season, they also had Christmas themed skits as well.  We all ate with our hands and had a great time.
