We made our annual winter trek to Highlands, North Carolina to disconnect and relax in a wonderful cabin in beautiful surroundings.  Sometimes in years past the weather has been so cold that you can’t stay outside for long periods but this year the temperatures were mild so we could enjoy hiking and being outdoors.

PopPop and Grandma came and stayed at the cabins a couple of days as well.  We all decided to begin one morning with a short hike.  The weather certainly was right for it but we did not count on all the ice along the path.  You can see from the photos how tightly Cara is holding on to PopPop’s hand to keep herself steady.  It was an icy uphill climb but we all made it and soaked in the beautiful views overlooking Highlands.  Then we made our way down as quickly and carefully as we could to reward ourselves with barbecue for lunch!
