Ireland-6

In March, Dad and I went back to Ireland.  We had a great time back in 2013 so why not give it another go!  Dad also went in 2014, but I missed that trip.

On our first day in Ireland, we headed South of Dublin to Glendalough.  On our way, we made an important stop.

The photo above was taken in front of Guinness Lake.  It’s owned by one of the heirs to the Guinness fortune.  They call it Guinness Lake because the water is black and the beach on one end makes it look like a Guinness.

More importantly, this is where the History channel films “Vikings!”  One of my favorite shows! This is Ragnar Ladbrokes home!  Awesome!

Next, we made it to the ruins of a Monastic City at Glendalough built in the 6th Century.

This is where the monks would keep a look out for Vikings.

This is where the monks would try to keep warm.  It’s also notable in that it has a stone roof.

After looking around the 6th Century ruins, Dad and I walked down to the two lakes.  Translated, Glendalough means “Valley between the Two Lakes.”  The Irish typically give places very literal names.
