This year for Halloween, Chloe Jane was a ’20s Flapper, Cara was Cleopatra and Tommy was Darth Vader. Ruth was a vampire and I reprised my role as Captain America. PopPop came for a Halloween visit and was a scary Phantom! The kids had much more energy and determination staying out later and hitting more homes than previous years. Eventually, I could see that Tommy was getting tired and having a hard time keeping up with the other kids in the group though he wanted to soldier ahead.
I told Tommy that I was getting tired and asked if he wanted to come back to the house with me. He said he did and he and I walked back home. On the way he said, “Daddy, mostly you wanted to go back home, right? And I didn’t want you to go back by yourself.”
