This summer, we spent a week at the Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms, South Carolina.  It was Cara’s first experience at a beach.  We stayed in a Villa where we could walk out of our room to the beach.  For the first few days, we were joined by Grandma and Grandpa who enjoyed playing with the girls on the beach.

When Chloe Jane and Cara needed a break from the beach, they were always up for fun.  Sometimes no matter where you are, you just can’t beat bubble fun.

It was not all fun and games on this vacation.  Cara had her first professional haircut (read:  first one that Mommy didn’t do).  We’ve been reluctant to cut those curls, but decided something needed to be done.  As for Cara tolerating the procedure, it looked dicey at first, but once the hair dresser suggested Cara be cut from Mommy’s lap, Cara was content.  Mind you, she didn’t smile once during the haircut, but she didn’t protest either.  When it was all over, she gave a big grin–probably saw how cute she looked.

One day, we suggested the girls hunt for sea shells.  So they grabbed their buckets and set out for the beach.  Chloe Jane was very thorough and determined in her search.  It took Cara a little while to get the hang of it–she started out just putting sand in her bucket.

I found some sand!

During the week, the girls tried some of the outdoor activities the resort had for small ones.  The went seining one morning where  staff members drag a net through the surf and see what they catch.  The girls also put those sea shells they found to good use by making stepping stones with them (well at least  Chloe Jane did–Cara refused to participate).   Cara was just wild about the fountains near the pool.  Finally, both girls got to pretend they were princesses being carted around the resort in their very own coach.  Daddy was the coachman as he pulled his two little princesses along the resort trails on a bike.

C'mon, C'mon!

Giddy up

When we weren’t doing activities, we were having fun in and around our villa–or as Chloe Jane called it, “our willow.”

Beach Ball fun!  You don’t even need a beach to have fun with a beach ball.

At Wild Dunes, Chloe Jane and Cara found places to play and have fun no matter where they were.  They climbed trees; they ran up and down hills; they walked along little walls.  One of the highlights was a small pond where they spotted an alligator.

All beach vacations must come to an end.  This is our last day on the beach.
