On Saturday, we drove out to a Blueberry Patch in Cherokee county.  With a couple of buckets, sun hats and a little poison ivy cream (just in case), the girls braved temperatures pushing 90 degrees even at 9:30 am to learn that blueberries don’t come from the “grocery shop.”  The blueberry bushes were not treated with insecticides so you could eat them right off the bush.  Cara ate way more than she put in the bucket.  That was okay though because you only paid for the blueberries that you put in your bucket.  As I was telling them; all the ones you eat are free!

The adventure continued after the blueberry picking.  On our way home, we stopped at a Chik-fil-a for lunch.  When we tried to leave, the van wouldn’t start.  Apparently, without warning the battery just completely died.  So while I arranged a jump, the girls tried out Chik-fil-a’s Icedream.  I then had to drive them to the repair shop nearby to make sure it was only the battery and then have it replaced.  Fortunately, the service department had a bunch of toys for kids so the girls played while we waited for the van to be checked out and battery replaced.

The girls took it all in stride.  The good blueberry pickers know:   it’s all in a day’s work.

Now once you have the blueberries, what’s the best thing to do with them?  Make a pie out of them of course.  Sunday morning, the girls combined the freshly picked blueberries with peaches and nectarines for a fruit pie.
